Jazz festival to honor De Anza jazz teacher
De Anza College's 22nd annual Herb Patnoe Memorial Jazz Festival will take place on May 29 at the Quinlan Community Center, 10185 Stelling Road. In addition to guest performer Jeff Clayton, an internationally known saxophonist and recording artist, the event will feature De Anza and local high school students.
The event begins at 3:30 p.m. with a free afternoon session featuring local high school jazz groups. Clayton will perform at 7:30 p.m. with Vocal Flight, De Anza's award-winning vocal jazz group and the Daddios, two De Anza jazz ensembles. Tickets for the evening concert are $8 for general admission and $6 for students and seniors.
The jazz festival is an ongoing tribute to the late Herb "Doc" Patnoe, an internationally renowned jazz educator who founded De Anza's jazz program more than three decades ago.
