The Fremont baseball team may have finished fourth in the rugged De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League, but the Firebirds had a talented enough squad to reach the Central Coast Section Division II finals this spring.

And that talent was recognized when the coaches of the De Anza Division got together to select their all-league team.

Members of the CCS runner-up Fremont squad received plenty of all-league attention for their efforts in the De Anza Division. Catcher Jack Chapman and outfielder Daniel Murrell were each named to the all-league first team. Chapman batted .401 and clubbed six home runs for the Firebirds, while Murrell hit .386 and scored 18 runs. Infielders Chris Knopf and Nathan Cathcart made the second team along with pitcher Ryan Boardman. Knopf and Cathcart scored a combined 27 runs and collected 32 hits together. Meanwhile, Boardman posted a 4-2 mound record and posted a 2.22 earned run average.

Cupertino also put a player on the first team and two more on the second team in the De Anza Division.

Designated hitter Andrew Ravadge won all-league first team honors, and brothers Jacob and Kyle Haberman were each named to the second team.

In the El Camino Division of the SCVAL, Homestead's Will Hayes and Chris McKim made the first team along with Monta Vista's Gavin Zack. The Matadors' Brandon Parisi and Cameron Walters were named to the second team, while Jason Dias received an honorable mention award.

Volleyball

The Homestead boys' volleyball team showed why it finished with an 18-8 record when three Mustangs received all-league honors in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

Bryan Hiraki and Jake Rosener were named as first team all-leaguers, while Jon Fong received second team honors. Hiraki led Homestead with 2.3 blocks per game, Rosener turned in a team-high 14.3 kills per game, and Fong led the team in aces and assists.

Fremont's Lance Lesui was a first team all-league selection and David Evans received second team honors.

Homestead junior varsity players Charles Hug and Matt Le received first and second team honors, respectively. For Fremont, JV players Gaurav Kumar and Mark Pariaszevski were named first team and Dave Tamondong was second team.

Softball

The Homestead softball team had six players claim all-league honors in the El Camino Division of the SCVAL. Center fielder Stephanie Kruckenburg and pitcher Karen Purdie were named to the first team. Third baseman Paula Kane, second baseman Tegra Lillie and catcher Jessaica Allemandi made the second team, and Joanna Harris received honorable mention.

Fremont boasted five honorees, all of whom are juniors. Third baseman Kelsey Severns and shortstop Jessica Moore made the first team, while leftfielder Erin Sturm and pitcher Kim Glass were named to the second team. First baseman Milana Jordan received honorable mention.

Other local selections in the El Camino division included Cupertino's Stacy McClure making all-league first team and Darcy Wittaker receiving honorable mention.

In the De Anza Division, Lynbrook received several selections. Catcher Stacy Bolt and pitcher Tracy Motzny were named to the prestigious first team. Third baseman Angie Lin and center fielder Serina Robinson received second team honors. Honorable mention went to Katlyn Cleaveland and Jeanna Fratus.

Monta Vista boasted four honorees. First team selections went to shortstop Sarah Taylor and third baseman Danni Brown. Catcher Paige Fitzwater received second team honors and Julia Bonin was an honorable mention pick.

Sports officials needed

The Fermar Corporation is looking for high school sports officials for the upcoming fall season. Officials are needed for football, field hockey, soccer, girls volleyball and water polo.

Fermar, which has been providing officials for high school athletic events in the Santa Clara Valley since 1977, will hold meetings and clinics for those men and women interested in becoming officials. Training sessions will begin in June and July and will continue through the fall season.

Officials earn between $25 and $55 per game, depending upon the sport and level of competition (varsity, junior varsity, freshman), and also have the opportunity to work youth and adult sports leagues in the area.

No experience is necessary, though knowledge of the sport a prospective official wishes to work is important. Officials also work at their own schedule.

For more information, call Fermar at 408.296.7900 or visit www.fermarcorp.com.
