City sponsors movies, concerts at sundown
Cinema at Sundown will be held Thursdays at 6:30 p.m., Aug. 1428, in Memorial Park Amphitheater, Stevens Creek Boulevard at Mary Avenue.
Each week, a different cultural performance group will entertain for approximately 90 minutes. Movies usually begin around 8 p.m.
On Aug. 14 the featured performers will be Molly's Revenge and the Rosemary Turco Dance Troupe, with traditional music and dances from Ireland, Scotland and Britain.
The movie that night is The Cup, a story about a group of young monks who will do anything, including sneaking out of the monastery, to see the World Cup finals. English subtitles are available.
On Aug. 21, the Firebird Youth Chinese Orchestra performs Eastern music with a Western influence and the movie is My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
On Aug. 28, San Jose Taiko and Miyagi Honryu Ohtori no Kai perform drumming and island dances of Japan and the movie is Mostly Martha, a German film. Martha is the head chef of an upscale restaurant. When her headstrong 8-year-old niece and a flamboyant assistant chef arrive, her organized life is thrown into a tailspin. English subtitles are available.

Kimberly Toy's illustration is a winning piece of art
Kimberley Toy, a fourth-grader at Faria Academic Plus School in Cupertino, was one of 12 student winners of the California Energy Commission's 2004 Energy Quest Calendar Contest.
The drawings, paintings and posters by 12 young artists will illustrate the 2004 calendar to be printed by the energy commission later this year.
Each student selected in the contest receives a $200 U.S. savings bond. Some 1,400 illustrations were entered by students in grades three through eight.
Renewable energy in California was the major theme for this year's artists.

Library hosts photo contest for teens
The Cupertino Library is holding an amateur photography contest for Cupertino teenagers.
The theme of the contest is "Teens view the many faces of Cupertino."
Contestants will be judged in two differnt age groups, 1316 and 1719.
Contestants can submit only one 8-by-10 black and white or color print. Digital photos are not accepted.
Entry forms are available at the library's reference desk.
All entries must be submitted to the library's reference desk by 5:30 p.m., Aug. 15. Contest winners will be notified during the week of Sept. 9.
Prizes will be awarded at a Teen Read Week reception on Oct. 15 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Shakespeare festival comes to Cupertino
Shakespeare in the Park 2003 presents Love's Labours Lost, a story about a young king and his noblemen trying to swear off all distractions, including dating, in an effort to concentrate on their studies.
But when the princess of France arrives, all bets are off, proving once again that love does conquer all.
This year's free event, which is presented by the city of Cupertino and the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, will take place at the Memorial Park Amphitheater on Aug. 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24.
