Aunt's illness sparks scout's blood drive

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Valley Presbyterian Church, 6191 Bollinger Rd.
Cochrane said he realized there is a great need for blood donations after his aunt, who was recently diagnosed with cancer, underwent several transfusions during her treatment. He found out that almost 25 percent of the blood used in the Bay Area is imported from other parts of the country.
Blood Centers of the Pacific, a nonprofit agency that distributes blood to 38 Bay Area hospitals, will manage the August event.
Prospective donors can schedule an appointment by calling Cochrane at 408.446.4762 or email him at antcochrane@hotmail.com.
