Sheriff's Report
The following incidents were culled from reports filed by deputies at the sheriff's Westside Substation.

Burglary—Sept. 7, 9:25 a.m., Stevens Creek Boulevard. At 1:15 a.m., an unknown person(s) used a key to open the locked door of a closed cafe, which activated an audible alarm. The person entered the cafe's locked office using the same key and took about $600 in cash from three cash register drawers and left. The alarm company was directed by the cafe's owner to reset the alarm. The owner did not dispatch the Sheriff's Office.

Petty Theft—Sept. 6, 11:20 a.m., Bandley Avenue. While being watched by a grocery-store employee, a person placed five packages of dumplings, one gallon of milk and a package of cucumbers into an empty bag. The person exited the store without paying for the $20.61 worth of merchandise. He was placed under citizen's arrest for shoplifting by the employee. The person was issued a citation for petty theft.

Vandalism—Sept. 6, 10:10 a.m., Stevens Creek Boulevard. An unknown person etched some illegible words on the front glass entrance doors of a jewelry store with an unknown sharp object while the store was closed. The vandalism was captured on the store surveillance video, which showed the person with a shirt over his head. The store will try to have the scratches buffed off the glass doors, which may cost less than $400. The store owner said replacing the door might cost about $10,000.

Burglary—Sept. 5, 1:20 a.m., Park Circle West. A car owner parked his car behind an apartment. When he came back to his vehicle later, he found the passenger window broken and the car stereo missing.
