Huang an All-American in two events
By Dick Sparrer
May C Huang, 14, of San Jose finished second in the 3,000 meters and third in the 1,500 meters at the prestigious USA Junior Olympic Track and Field championships held this summer in Miami, Fla.

Huang, who starred last spring as an eighth grade runner at Miller Middle School, earned All-American honors of each of the two events. The top eight finishers in each event qualified for All-American status.

It marked the third straight year that Huang has advanced from the Region 14 competition to the national championships.

At Miller last year, Huang won the 800-meter and mile events at the league track finals. Earlier in the year, she took the league cross country title for Miller, where she was also a starter on the basketball and volleyball teams. She is now a freshman at Lynbrook.

Huang's sister, 10-year-old Cindy, made her debut at the Junior Olympics this summer and placed 22nd in the 1,500 meters in the girls bantam division. Cindy attends Muir Elementary School.
