Gilbert, Lee win
Kelly Gilbert and Ben Lee of Monta Vista High School shared a $2,000 scholarship by finishing among the winners in the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame's 11th annual Art Rosenbaum High School Sports Writing Scholarship competition.
Gilbert and Lee were among the winners honored in August at Pac Bell Park prior to the San Francisco GiantsPhiladelphia Phillies game.
Will Hayes of Homestead and Nicole Mehta of Fremont were among the honorable mention winners.
Local sports grants
The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame announced the winners of its Youth Fund sports grants earlier this summer, and local winners of donated funds include the Cupertino American Little League, the Los Gatos Rowing Club and the Sunnyvale Middle School after-school sports program.
BASHOF has distributed nearly $2 million in grants since the inception of the Youth Fund in 1981. This year, more than $50,000 was distributed, including $8,562.47 in the Santa Clara County.

Punt, Pass, Kick
The annual Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick competition for youngsters ages 815 (as of Dec. 31, 2003) will be held Oct. 12, beginning at 2 p.m. at San Jose PAL Stadium.
