Parker wins title
Former Monta Vista tennis star Stefan Parker, now a junior at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, teamed with Sean Fifield to win the NCAA Division 3 doubles title in men's tennis.
The pair qualified for the Oct. 17 finals in Corpus Christi, Texas, by winning the title at the Southwest Regionals, hosted by Trinity.
Parker was a member of Monta Vista teams that won Central Coast Section titles in 1998 through 2001. He teamed with Jason Tsui to take the CCS doubles title as a junior.
Summer softball
The Strikkers, a 16 and under fastpitch softball team for girls, will hold tryouts on Nov. 22 and Dec. 7 at Oak Grove High School, 285 Blossom Hill Road in San Jose. Pitchers and catchers should report at 9 a.m. with position players to report at 10 a.m. The traveling team will play throughout the state and also in Colorado this summer. 5-on-5 soccer
A five-a-side youth soccer league will play a four-week season Nov. 29 through Dec. 20 at Del Mar High School and the old Blackford High School. Games will be played on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings.
The 5-on-5 games feature smaller fields with bigger goals than normal soccer fields. The registration fee is $250 for teams up to seven players, or $50 per player for individuals.
