San Jose will care for city's animals

The city of Cupertino was one of the seven cities that formed the Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority to provide animal services. But during the past year, Sunnyvale and Cupertino decided to withdraw from the organization due to concerns over upcoming shelter operating and construction costs. After weighing alternatives, the city council decided to contract with the city of San Jose for animal services after the city's contract with the animal control authority expires on July 1 of 2004. Staff say the decision not only won't impact pet owners but also gives the city more financial control over its budget.
