Middle schoolers can visit Japan this year
The Cupertino-Toyokawa Sister City Program will hold an informational meeting for prospective exchange students on Jan. 21 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Cupertino Union School District boardroom, at 10301 Vista Drive.
The sister city relationship between Cupertino and Toyokawa was established in 1978. Since that time, student delegations from Toyokawa and Cupertino have exchanged visits to share experiences and cultural awareness.
This year, students will be selected from sixth, seventh and eighth grades at Cupertino, Hyde, Kennedy, McAuliffe and Miller middle schools. They will travel to Japan in the summer, live with host families and tour cultural sites.
Proof of U.S. citizenship is required of all applicants, to be shown at the information meeting, and attendance at the meeting is mandatory for all prospective students.
For more information, call Lucille Honig, president of the Cupertino-Toyokawa Sister City Program, at 408.257.7424.
