Traffic calming gate taken down

The Eaton neighborhood can finally say farewell to the much-disliked barricade/gate on Pacifica Drive. At the request of several neighborhoods near city hall, the city put up the gate in 1986 to reduce cut-through traffic on Pacifica from nearby major streets. Twice a day, during peak hours, the gate closed off Pacifica Drive, but residents later found the gate inconvenient, and in April 2002, the gate was severely damaged by an ambulance answering an emergency call. In January 2004, the city council ordered public works to permanently remove the gate.
