While many Americans are concerned about our epidemic of obesity, students at John Muir Elementary School cheered for a man who once weighed 447.5 pounds and was proud of it. Master Yasushi 'Onokuni' Shibatayama, who at age 28 was the 62nd Sumo Grand Champion of Japan in 1987, got celebrity treatment when he visited John Muir on Feb. 13. The former sumo wrestler—now 100 pounds slimmer—talked about his career, showed wrestling films and offered up autographs while the youngsters presented him with gifts from the school.
