Dons fall to Cabrillo

De Anza College sophomore James Liu won his No. 1 singles match and combined with Chad Sunderland to win at No. 2 doubles, but the Dons lost 5-4 to Cabrillo of Aptos in a Coast Conference tennis match at Foothill College.

Liu won his singles match 6-1, 6-2, then teamed with Sunderland to win doubles by the same score. John Salvador (No. 4) and Chris Chu (No. 6) also won singles matches for the Dons. The second doubles team of Salvador and Chris Doan lost a three-set match, falling 7-5 in the decisive set. The Dons now are 1-6 in league play.

Other members of the De Anza team are Tin Nguyen, Jimmy Ma, Raymond Chung, Aaron Levin, Jazmeet Raju and Hau Nguyen. The Dons are led by first-year coach Kelly Simons.

Due to a large construction project on the De Anza campus, the Dons have been forced to practice and play home matches at Foothill College or Saratoga Country Club this season. After a couple of road matches surrounding a week off, the Dons return "home" to Foothill on April 6 for a match against Mission.
