Mat golfers take two
Anthony Cochrane shot two-over par 38 to lead the Monta Vista golf team to a 205-231 win over Santa Clara on March 18. The match, played at Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Club, improved the Matadors' SCVAL-El Camino record to 3-2.
A day earlier the Matadors beat host Milpitas 229-249 at Summitpointe Golf Course. Matador Phil Lee's 42 was the low score on the par-36 course.
Meanwhile, at Deep Cliff in Cupertino, Lynbrook's Andrew Chow was the medalist and the Vikings topped Santa Clara 170-191.
Homestead outdueled Gunn 206-213 on March 15. Kurt Dodge's 1-under par 34 paced the Mustangs' win at Sunnyvale Golf Course.
Wood tosses no-hitter
Lynbrook freshman Kendra Wood made her first Santa Clara Valley Athletic League softball game a memorable one. The Viking pitcher fired a no-hitter against Cupertino on March 17.
Wood struck out seven Pioneers and walked none in the El Camino Division opener for both teams.
Two days later the Vikings scored four times in the first inning against Los Altos, but lost 5-4 and fell to 1-1 in league play.
