Hoopsters honored
The basketball setting was different this season than in 2003 for Homestead senior Mandy Wald and Lynbrook junior Nikki Chang, but the results were the same.
First-team selections in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League's El Camino Division a year ago, both players were picked by coaches to the De Anza Division all-league first team this year. Homestead sophomore Becky Tratter also earned first-team honors.
Homestead senior Janelle Kitasoe and Lynbrook junior Vickie Chien were second team selections. Senior Melanie Wen of Monta Vista and juniors Melissa Manuel of Homestead and Tiffany Pan of Lynbrook were given honorable mention.
The El Camino boys first team included senior Jacob Fine of Lynbrook and junior Jonathan Hiley of Cupertino. Senior Eric Mayeda of Cupertino and Garrett Peters of Monta Vista were picked to the second team.
The honorable mention list included four Cupertino players, seniors Clay Stiver and Eric Ng, junior Greg Thacker and sophomore Ehson Mortezaie, and two Lynbrook standouts, senior John Lee and junior Jethen Pandian.
In the boys De Anza Division, senior Domingo Emiano of Homestead was picked to the second team and junior teammate Mark McLaughlin received honorable mention.
Chow's a winner
Andrew Chow's 1-under par 29 at the Deep Cliff Golf Club was good enough to be the best individual score, but not enough to help Lynbrook defeat SCVAL De Anza Division rival Los Gatos on April 1. Los Gatos used fewer strokes, 162-178, on the nine holes and improved its record to 8-1. Lynbrook is 2-6.
Two days earlier, Daniel Coates fired a 2-over 37 at Sunnyvale Municipal Golf Course, leading Homestead past Fremont 194-218 in another De Anza Division match. The win improved the Mustangs' record to 6-2. Fremont fell to 3-4.
In El Camino Division play on March 29, Anthony Cochrane and Phil Lee both shot 3-over 37s as Monta Vista topped Milpitas 199-226 and evened its record at 3-3.
