Cupertino golf win
Cupertino High's golf team finished with a bang, winning its last two matches of the season.
The Pioneers edged Gunn 223-224 in their final SCVAL De Anza Division match on April 15, a day after outshooting Lynbrook 193-222 in a non-league match.
Freshman Tom Adrounie's 41 was the best Cupertino score against Gunn at Palo Alto Municipal Golf Course. Junior Gerry Smith shot 43, while senior Jason Leong and freshman David Yoo both fired 45s for the Pioneers. Senior Toshi Akabori added 49.
Leong and Adrounie shared the medalist honor against Lynbrook. Both shot 35 at the par-30 Deep Cliff Golf Course. Smith shot 38, Yoo 40 and freshman Max Ingraham 45.
Lynbrook finished its El Camino schedule with a 162-177 victory over Monta Vista. Andrew Chow fired a bogey-less round of 29. Phil Lee's 31 paced the Matadors.
Kyle Anido shot 32 for Lynbrook. Teammates Kyle Fernandez (33), Philip Wong (33) and Robert Tom (35) all had solid efforts. Fernandez had an eagle on the 224-yard, par-4 sixth hole.
Chow was the medalist in a match April 6 at Milpitas' Summitpointe Golf Course. He carded a one-over par 37, but Lynbrook lost 226-234.
Monta Vista had picked up wins against Wilcox and Santa Clara on April 12 at Saratoga Country Club, as Lee and Anthony Cochrane both shot 3-over 37s.
Meanwhile, at Sunnyvale Municipal Golf Course, Kurt Dodge's par round of 35 helped Homestead top Los Altos 195-206 and raise its El Camino record to 8-2. Geoffrey Bazinett's 36 was the best score in the Mustangs' 205-219 win over Cupertino on April 5 at Sunnyvale Muni.
Colt baseball
The SunnyvaleCupertino Pony-Colt baseball program will hold tryouts for its Colt division on April 24 and May 1, 9:30 a.m.noon each day, at Ortega Park in Sunnyvale. The teams are open to players ages 1516. Registration can be completed at either one of the tryout sessions.
