De Anza newspaper
wins 11 awards

After a recent trip to Los Angeles, staff members of De Anza College's La Voz student newspaper brought home a number of prized souvenirs—11 awards from the Journalism Association of Community Colleges.

The statewide convention, held from April 1 to 3 at the Wilshire Grand Hotel, honored the newspaper's magazine and its online publication for general excellence.

Arlette Thibodeau of Campbell won two awards: The Tom Pasqua Memorial Essay award, which garnered Thibodeau a $200 prize, and second place in the opinion story category.

The staff and various members also won honorable mentions in seven additional areas, competing against 52 other community colleges. Sixteen De Anza students and two advisers attended the three-day convention, which included tours of the Los Angeles Times and journalism workshops.

The online version of La Voz is located at http://www.lavozdeanza.com.
