National award winner

Sammy Suresh, the daughter of Krish and Sujatha Suresh, has been named a United States National Award Winner in English. Sammy is a student at Kennedy Middle School and was nominated for the award by Jackie Armor, a language arts teacher.

The honor is given by the United States Achievement Academy, a program that recognizes fewer than 10 percent of American high school students. Teachers and coaches nominate students for the award, and students are selected based on a number of factors, including academic performance, leadership and responsibility.

Sammy belongs to the Debate Club and the Lend a Helping Paw community service club at Kennedy. She also swims competitively with De Anza Cupertino Aquatics and has played piano for seven years.
