The following incidents were culled from reports filed by deputies at the sheriff's Westside Substation.
Explosive Device on a School Ground—Aug. 21, 4:03 a.m., Finch Avenue. Four suspects allegedly conspired to light and explode an explosive device, which they ignited in the mat room of a school gymnasium, where at least 30 students were sleeping. The device was reported to emit fire, sparks and loud concussive noises. Two suspects were booked at the main jail, while the other two remain at large.
Minor in Possession—Aug. 21, 12:10 a.m., Vicksburg Drive. A female minor held a party at her mother's residence, where alcoholic beverages and a green, leafy substance with the odor of marijuana were present. The girl was drinking alcohol herself. She was cited and released to her mother. Another girl fled the scene and assaulted a deputy. She was not cited and was released to her father.
Found Property: Bicycle—Aug. 20, 8:20 p.m., S. Tantau Avenue. The reporting party found an unknown bicycle on the sidewalk in front of her house. A sheriff's deputy notified the sheriff's records clerk of the found bicycle and booked the bicycle as found property.
Identity Theft—Aug. 20, 4:00 p.m., Via Sorrento. On July 22, the victims wrote a $425 check to pay for insulation out of a home improvement account used for a construction project. The check was cashed on July 27, but someone copied the information from that check to cash a fraudulent $25,000 check that was deposited into a Florida account on Aug. 19. The check was canceled before any money was removed from the victims' account. There is information available to locate the suspect(s).
