Council needs to keep code enforcement group

I normally write to complain about something or give unneeded or unwanted advice to Cupertino residents but this letter is different. I want to congratulate City Manager Dave Knapp and his code enforcement organization on the really great job they do for the City of Cupertino. My wife and I have used them various times in the many years we have lived here for relatively minor things like parking incorrectly, dogs off leash, construction at the wrong time, etc. And they have always been very responsive. They are always courteous to us and to the people that are not following the code. So congrats to Dave and the code enforcement organization.

To my friends on the city council, assuming I have any, I know money is tight in the budget, but I would encourage you not to reduce the code enforcement budget. They are a great asset to the city.

To those people who have never used the code enforcement organization or to newcomers to Cupertino, I would encourage you to report anything that you see in your neighborhood that looks wrong or should be wrong to the code enforcement people. They can be reached at 408-777-3200 and almost anytime you call you will get a live person on the line. Which is in itself a miracle these days.

Jim Carlisle
