For those looking for a place to dance the evening away and sing in the new year with Auld Lang Syne the city, for the first time, will be hosting a New Year's Eve celebration, with proceeds going to benefit the Cupertino Library Foundation. Organizational co-chair Jack Hubby said that he hopes this party will be the first of many.
"We're trying to establish a new gala event," Hubby said. "I'm co-chairing with Nicôl Lea, and we both have good reputations for throwing a good party."
The decision to throw Cupertino's first New Year's party was made just before the grand opening of the library in October. Money raised by the party will go toward helping the city with furniture and equipment for the library. After completing that task, the foundation will look toward other library projects for fundraising, including an extension of library hours.
The foundation has other events planned to raise money for the library, including a Super Bowl party at the beginning of February that will take advantage of the dual big screens at the new Cupertino Community Hall.
For the upcoming festivities, the partying will take place at the Quinlan Community Center, which Hubby said required a good deal of cooperation from the city. "Normally, all public buildings are shut down that day," Hubby said.
But with some pleading from the foundation, the city will keep Quinlan open until 1 a.m. to accommodate the buffet dinner and dancing the foundation has planned for New Year's Eve. The $75 per person ticket also covers champagne, beer, wine, party favors and door prizes. Hubby said organizers were aiming for 200 partygoers, all dressed in "party attire."
The First Annual Cupertino New Year's Party begins at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 and runs until 1 a.m. on Jan. 1. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact Hubby at 408.996.2821 or jackhubby@comcast.net. The Quinlan Center is located at 10185 N. Stelling Road.
