Sheriff substation moves base to Cupertino
By Hugh Biggar
The police are coming to Cupertino. No, crime rates have not skyrocketed. Instead, Cupertino is the new home for the Santa Clara County sheriff's office substation. Previously, the substation was in Saratoga for 22 years. However, crowded conditions and the poor quality of the downtown Saratoga facility led to the move.

"We have been looking for the last 15 years," said Capt. John Hirokawa. "We had been told the facility was inadequate and not up to code." The Saratoga office had experienced electrical and flooding problems in the past.

"We also had to find adequate parking for our fleet [of police cars]," Hirokawa said. "With the leases being low right now, it seemed like a good time to make the move."

The new Cupertino substation is located in the former Triple A building, 1601 S. De Anza Blvd, Suite 148.

In addition to Cupertino, the substation will continue to serve the communities of Saratoga, Los Altos Hills and unincorporated sections of the Santa Cruz Mountains and Moffett Field. The phone number will remain the same, 408.868.6600.
