Council gives developer OK to begin approval
By Hugh Biggar
Toll Brothers Inc. would like to build a major development in the Vallco Fashion Park area. But this project would require an amendment to the General Plan. Before Toll Brothers can even begin the long development review process, it needed the city council to give it the go-ahead.

The city council did so at its Jan. 18 meeting, voting 4-1 to let Toll Brothers take the next step. Councilwoman Kris Wang cast the only dissenting vote. The council authorized a request by Toll Brothers Inc. to apply for a General Plan amendment that would allow the developer to build:

*255 market-rate residential units;

*45 belowmarket rate residential units;

*3.5 acres of park;

*A park in Rancho Rinconada;

*A minimum of 100,000 square feet of commercial space.

The council's vote does not approve the project; it only allows the applicant to apply for the development review process.

The development review process includes an environmental assessment and neighborhood and community outreach meetings. The process culminates in public hearings with the planning commission and city council. More information is available online at. www.cupertino.org/planning.

The next city council meeting will be on Feb. 1 at 6:45 p.m. in the community hall, 10350 Torre Ave.
