The following incidents were culled from reports filed by deputies at the sheriff's Westside Substation.
Found Property—Feb. 27, 11:40 a.m., De Anza Boulevard. A person found an old rifle lying in a Dumpster in an alley. The owner could not be located. A sheriff's deputy checked it into the Westside substation as found property.
Identity Theft—Feb. 26, 6:15 p.m., Alpine Drive. A man reported that an unknown party had used his mother-in-law's Social Security information to open a bank account in Inglewood. The man reported that he had been contacted about the account, which had become fraudulent and was due $6,306.24. The responsible party is still at large.
Burglary (Commercial)—Feb. 25, 6:40 p.m., Homestead Road. A woman entered a store to return a few items she had previously purchased there. She continued to shop after the returns were made and pulled out an extra shopping bag she had stored in her purse. She placed a purse, a shirt, a rug and two bowls inside the bag and then walked out without paying for the items. A witness stopped and detained the woman. She was arrested and booked into the main jail.
Burglary (Residential)—Feb. 25, 6:44 p.m., Erin Way at Kim Drive. An unknown person(s) entered a home through a broken bedroom window and spent considerable time going through all the rooms and closets in the residence. The only items taken were children's costume jewelry and a cordless phone. The person(s) left through a sliding glass door and is still at large.
