Schneider, Monta Vista girls shine at CCS

Fremont's Kevin Schneider breezed through the Division II boys race and the Monta Vista girls put three runners in the top 10 of the girls Division I race at the Central Coast Section Division I cross country championships held Nov. 12.

Schneider finished the 2.95-mile race at Crystal Springs in Belmont in 15:46, good enough for third place in the division and 11th overall in CCS.

Schneider was the first of two finishers for Fremont. Elijah Carillo ran 16:49 for 28th in the division.

In girls action, Monta Vista's Jean Feng (18:57), Lisa Worsham (19:03) and Angela Hsu (19:03) finished five-six-seven to lead the Matadors to a team second. Stephanie Cham was 10th in 19:18 and Sharanya Shankar 46th in 21:12 to round out the top five for the Mats.

Carlmont had 46 team points to win the Division I title with Monta Vista second at 73 and San Benito a distant third at 118.

Behind Monta Vista in the standings were the runners from Homestead where Laura Pochowski led the effort. Pochowski, 20th in 20:01, helped the Mustangs to fifth in Division I. Rachel Moll was 23rd in 20:18 and Kristen Peanasky was 31st in 20:38.

Lynbrook's MayC Huang finished 17th in 19:31 to lead the Vikings to a ninth-place team finish in Division II. Cindy Ju was 41st in 20:17 with Yvonne Fong 49th in 20:49.

Sumika Shiokawa headed Cupertino's effort to a sixth-place team finish in Division III. Shiokawa was fourth in 18:48 with Kimberly Chew, 16th in 19:47 and Hansol Kim 38th in 20:44.

Rishi Agrawal, 22nd in 16:30, headed up Homestead's unit for an 11th-place team finish in Division I. Agrawal was aided by teammates Nick Oliver, 42nd in 17:08, and Sammer Tharakan, 49th in 17:18.

Just behind Homestead in Division I was Monta Vista with a 12th-place team finish. Simon Bill, 15th in 16:15, was the frontrunner for Monta Vista. Behind Bill was Thomas Bill, 43rd in 17:10, and Yu Hsiao, 47th in 17:15.

Cupertino's Mrinal Bedi was 68th in 18:08 in Division III.
