Open letter writers don't see the lack of diversity

In the "Open letter to board of trustees of FUHSD" (Letters & Opinion, Dec. 14), Michael Chang, Barry Chang, Perl Cheng, Paul Fong, Michelle Hu, Patrick Kwok, Ben Liao, Tommy Shwe, Steve Ting, Kris Wang, and Gilbert Wong suggest, among other things, that the district pursue "an ongoing recruiting strategy to hire a more diverse administrative and teaching staff."

This suggestion sends a clear message is that this powerful group of Asians is prepared to try to replace anyone who says anything that they do not like. It is as if to say, "we are not concerned with the 'white flight' issue documented in the Wall Street Journal article, in fact, we would like to see it extended to the FUSHD administrative and teaching staff."

They should be more concerned with the key issue raised by Mark Seto and Hung Wei in that same WSJ article. That is, the Asian-American students themselves are being adversely affected by a lack of diversity in the Asian culture so prevalent in several of our Cupertino schools.
