Although the name and the look remain the same, a popular Cupertino coffee shop now has new owners.
Jackie Streeter and her sons Bill Streeter and Dan St. Peter took over the Coffee Society next to the Cupertino Library from longtime owner Ralph Flynn at the end of November. As a part of the deal, the new owners are able to use the Coffee Society name and products.
According to Streeter, Flynn wants to devote more time to his Campbell store.
Streeter and her sons hope the cafe becomes more than a place for people to to get coffee, green tea and lattes.
"Part of our mission is to bring people together," Streeter said. As a part of that goal, the new owners hope to hold concerts and author readings in the adjoining courtyard, and at Cupertino's neighboring community center.
St. Peter, 31, a Monta Vista High School graduate, will be responsible for arranging the events, while Bill Streeter, 25, a Lynbrook graduate, will manage the cafe. Both men also have experience in the restaurant business and were looking for an opportunity to run their own business.
Other plans for the Coffee Society at the library include adding seats, placing umbrellas at the outdoor tables and increasing the hours of operation to help make it a place where people can sit and chat.
Streeter says she also hopes to contribute to the community and is looking for a charitable organization to partner with.
If successful at the library location, Streeter said they hope to eventually expand to other locations.
In the meantime, Streeter and her sons are looking forward to making the library Coffee Society a success.
"At Apple, I loved working on projects with people and building something together," she said of her former career as high-tech engineer. "Now I'm looking forward to making that happen at Coffee Society."
