Brenda Jasman was district librarian
By ERIN HUSSEY
Brenda Tedd Jasman, Cupertino resident and former Cupertino Union School District librarian, died at home Sept. 7. She was 68.
Jasman was born in Syracuse, N.Y., and married Robert J. Jasman Sr. in 1962.
Jasman was a stay-at-home mom through her children's high school years. Following their graduations, she became a school librarian and teacher for 21 years, both in Syracuse and in the Cupertino High School District. She received much praise and official recognition for creative advances in early reading and continued to be appreciated by students and parents after her retirement in 1995.
She always made time for others, including becoming a pen pal to at-home hospice patients she never met.
She was also a lover of butterflies and was always ready to share with others her enthusiasm for the tiny creatures. She also enjoyed paddling in canoes, off-color jokes, peanut brittle and laughing at male dominance.
Jasman was confined to bed for the last three years in at-home hospice care. Numerous cards and flowers from ex-students, parents, family and community members were always arriving, saying how they remembered her as a very special teacher and friend.
Jasman is survived by her husband and primary caretaker Robert, three children and two grandchildren. She considered her sister, Carol Neille, and sister-in-law, Katherine Jasmine-Smith, her dearest friends.
A memorial service was held Sept. 21 at St. Jude's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Habitat for Humanity International at 121 Habitat St., Americus, GA. 31709-3498.
