Fallen tree at Blackberry Farm prompts concern

By CAROL BOGART

Witnesses report a giant sycamore tree crashed to the ground at Blackberry Farm on Oct. 23 around 6 a.m. A barbecue pit was crushed, and serving and picnic tables were demolished. Neighbors Alice and Don Bautista, who took pictures, say power lines fell across the bridge.

The two say the tree was located in the picnic area adjacent to Scenic Circle/Scenic Court. They point to a 'No Trespassing' sign they say was recently posted on what they call an improperly installed fence. The Bautistas say the city intended to prevent access to the park from the adjacent neighborhood.

Trespassers, however, have cut a new hole not far from the fallen tree, the Bautistas say. Although no one was in the park when the tree fell, some residents walk their dogs in the area early in the morning, the couple reports.

The Bautistas have asked the Parks and Recreation Department to repair the new hole and the fence.
