Walter Toy Eng

Walter Toy Eng, a long-time Cupertino resident and retired electrical engineer, died Oct. 23. He was 91.

Eng was born in China on May 10, 1915. As a young boy, he came to the United States with his father. Following his father's death, Eng put himself through Purdue University, becoming one of the first Chinese born electrical engineers in the U.S.

During his career, Eng worked at Chicago Transformer, Hewlett-Packard Co., and Stanford Applied Engineering. He retired in the early '70s.

Eng is survived by his wife, Rose, to whom he was married for 64 years; his children, Rosemary Eng of Canada, Vivian Fong of Foster City, Debra Bressem of Hawaii, and Jeffrey Eng of Cupertino.

Many local merchants knew Eng, a 40-year resident of Cupertino, on a first-name basis. He was also a parishioner for 30 years at Valley Church.

Eng's hobbies included the Sunnyvale Stamp Club, playing tennis at De Anza College, and gardening. He grew Chinese vegetables at the Stevens Creek Community Garden.

Marvin Morck

Marvin (Marty) Morck, longtime resident of Cupertino, died Oct. 27. He was 56. Born in Salt Lake City on June 6, 1950, Morck battled cerebral palsy. However, he was able to live a fairly independent life, thanks to his living in an apartment at Le Beaulieu next-door to his aide Shun Dee. Morck could often be seen wheeling down Stevens Creek and De Anza boulevards in his electric wheelchair.

Funeral services were held at the Lima Family Sunnyvale Mortuary on Nov. 4. A reception followed at Union Church of Cupertino.

Memorial donations can be made in Morck's name to the Humane Society Silicon Valley.
