Speak Out

Christmas music
without Jesus

By federal action, we soon will celebrate the birth of Jesus. And even though our nation was founded on Christian principles, we are forgetting or denying this constantly.

Today at noon our club heard a school choir sing Christmas music without Christ or Jesus ever being mentioned. "We Three Kings" followed a star, true. Do students know why?

Teachers tell me they realize that other religions are recognized in teaching and music, but not Christianity. Why are we afraid to speak up for the true meaning of this national holiday? While we are learning about every other group in the entire world, can't we learn about ourselves also?

Removal of trees
not a good plan

Last week's article about Stevens Creek Corridor--much better known as Blackberry Farm--really sounds nice. However, while this very costly project may wax bucolic on paper, the fact is city council has approved removing 187 trees in the Blackberry Farm area for this project. This is an outrageous public trust travesty, and, while I support creek restoration, I certainly do not support removal of viable, mature trees in our city parks.
