'Tino's Jarvis is league's top polo player
By MIKE BARNHART
Before getting knocked off in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division playoffs, the Cupertino boys water polo team had not lost a game to a division opponent. In fact, the Pioneers had rolled to a 12-0 record against division foes during the regular season.
There were a number of reasons for the Pioneers' success, but the biggest was the consistent play and leadership of senior Derrik Jarvis. And the El Camino coaches saluted Jarvis' outstanding senior season by naming him the league's Most Valuable Player.
Jarvis was joined on the all-El Camino team by four teammates. Seniors Tim Lordan and Kayvon Ghaffari and sophomore Ryan Jarvis were first team picks, and junior Johnway Yih made the honorable mention list.
Other first team selections included seniors Steve Nguyen, the Most Valuable Goalie, Brandt Robinson and Matt Chen and juniors Terry Jiang and Matt Cai of Lynbrook, seniors Kevin Conti and Alex Romanko of Homestead and Raymond Paseman of Harker.
The honorable mention list included seniors Brian Armstrong of Homestead, Miles Ward of Lynbrook and Mark Olilla of Harker and junior Geovid Kali of Homestead.
Monta Vista junior Dylan Gantley was a first team choice on the all-De Anza team, and senior Chris Moe earned honorable mention.
At the frosh-soph level, Homestead sophomore Matt Edwards was the Most Valuable Player in the El Camino Division, and Lynbrook's Joe Chung was the Most Valuable Goalie. The first team included Justin Bettman, Dhruva Chandrasekhar, Josh Glincher and Sam Hyrne of Homestead, Michael Fong and Joe Kim of Lynbrook and Russell Preston of Cupertino.
Cameron Ferguson of Monta Vista was named to the all-De Anza frosh-soph first team.

Lynbrook standout Kiley Davis capped a fine senior season by representing the Central Coast Section in an all-star game against the North Coast Section on Dec. 11 in Moraga. Davis, a member of the all-El Camino Division first team, was one of 21 CCS senior girls chosen to oppose the NCS's best seniors.
Other all-El Camino first team picks included seniors Bridget Cheng and Laura Worsham of Monta Vista and juniors Jenny Coryell, Joanna Dunham and Amanda Hui of Monta Vista. The second team included seniors Allison Fong and Ashwini Mulgaonkar of Lynbrook, Megan Dykema of Cupertino and Emily Pool of Homestead, and sophomores Becka Wagner and Molly Karleskind of Monta Vista, Melissa Sullivan and Beckie Yanovsky of Harker.
In the girls junior varsity division, Homestead sophomore Veronica Bucher received the Most Valuable Player award. She was joined on the first team by junior teammate Laura Gongwer, Monta Vista freshman Alyssa Walker and four Lynbrook players--junior Jamie Oeser and sophomores Carol Wei, Paige Robinson and Selena Kuo.
The second team included sophomores Elaine Liu of Lynbrook, Margaret Huang of Monta Vista, and Ashley Ott and Danielle Quest of Homestead, and freshmen Samantha Ungson and Sage Wickman of Homestead.
