Residents have spoken; city needs to listen
Attention: Colin Jung, Cupertino Planing Department. As per our telephone conversation today, you asked me to email my thoughts because you were unable to record or respond to my telephone comments. Here they are, with a copy to the Cupertino Courier with my permission to publish.
Another developer is presenting plans for rezoning the Vallco property from industrial to residential, with plans to build approximately 125 additional housing units. I wanted it noted that the citizens of Cupertino voted in November 2006 that they did not want this type of use in Vallco. You stated that it applied to the two particular development proposals and that developers were within their rights to submit their proposals. I agree that developers should be able to do that. I do not feel that the City Council should be worn into submission because of continuous presentations!
I do feel that the citizens of Cupertino were protesting the direction that our city council was taking Cupertino with regard to high density growth. We, the people of Cupertino, cannot vote no on individual proposals. We expect that the city council members took note of the vote and, as elected officials, will make sure that their decisions reflect the will of the people of Cupertino!
I am aware that there is a community workshop on the North Vallco Master Plan Study on Jan. 25 at the Community Hall. I have attended many of these types of community presentations and have been disappointed that what I hear Cupertino citizens saying is not always what becomes the final outcome. Hopefully, developers and outside interests will not have the final say in how we live our lives in Cupertino!
