Resident applauds
preservation efforts

Page 11 of the Jan. 24 Courier is, quite literally, close to home for me. I live on Sterling Boulevard and cheer with all my heart the greening efforts of Cupertino to expand the creek trail and add parkland. My thanks to Cody Kraatz for reporting this interesting information on negotiations. Thanks also to Dolly Sandoval and Richard Lowenthal.

My land touches the current creek trail, and for 23 years I've prayed for the preservation of beautiful Saratoga Creek, the trees and wildlife. Intelligent preservation has to struggle with the idea of valuable real estate. Valuable? Certainly, what price do you put on your lungs? The remnant of our urban forest is the most valuable "real estate" that we can leave our children and grandchildren.

I am forever grateful to have found a city, Cupertino, that has a government and mission understanding of preservation. I realize that trees have enemies (too late for a few old trees in Willow Glen) and the argument goes on...bicycles vs. cars, trails vs. more housing. I welcome the Courier's providing a forum for opinions and a chance to get educated on these subjects and to make a difference. I look forward to many more articles on vital issues.
