'Beeping' package forces shutdown of post office
By Cody Kraatz
Authorities evacuated the U.S. Post Office on Stevens Creek Boulevard near Bubb Road on May 4 after a postal worker reported a beeping package around 9 a.m.
Bomb detectives scanned the package with an X-ray and found a portable intravenous pump inside that beeped because it was low on battery power. It had been shipped to a Cupertino resident from Pittsburgh, Pa., possibly after it was bought on eBay, authorities said. U.S. Postal Service investigators contacted the shipper and recipient.
About 50 postal service employees stood across the street after being evacuated when the package was found. The post office was back to normal operations by 11:30 a.m.
