Sheriff's Report

The following incidents were culled from reports filed by deputies at the sheriff's Westside Substation.

Commercial burglary--Jan 5, 9:50 p.m., Homestead Road. A 15-year-old boy attempted to steal a bottle of vodka and a pack of crackers from a market. He was cited and released to his mother.

Assault--Jan. 5, 8:44 p.m., Bandley Drive. When a man returned a purchased item, he argued with the store manager and hit the manager's cheek with his right fist.

Auto burglary--Jan. 4, 7 p.m., Wolfe Road. A man returned to his parked van in a parking garage and found the front passenger side window broken. A portable GPS worth $400 was missing.

Vandalism--Jan. 4, 6 p.m., De Anza Boulevard. A woman noticed a rear window of her Honda Accord broken in her company parking lot. Nothing was stolen. The damage cost $500 to repair.

Auto burglary--Jan. 4, 3 p.m., Mariani Drive. When a woman returned to her Toyota Celica in her company parking lot, she saw the driver's side window smashed. Her GPS, worth $399, was gone.

Identity theft--Jan. 4, 10:45 a.m., Walnut Circle. A man reported the loss of his debit card, which had been charged $423.87.

Identity theft--Jan. 3, 8:55 p.m., Chelmsford Drive. A woman received a credit card from Best Buy for which she had never applied. She contacted the store and the staff told her someone had used her personal information to open an account and charged $2,911.

Driving out of a truck route--Jan. 3, 9:45 a.m., McClellan Road. A large dump truck was taking a short cut to the Stevens Creek Quarry. The driver was cited for driving out of a truck route.

Residential burglary--Jan. 2, 4:25 p.m., Vista Knoll Boulevard. Someone ransacked a residence and took a laptop, cash, gold coins, and jewelry worth $57,124.

Petty theft of mail--Jan. 2, 12 p.m., Orange Avenue. A woman came home from vacation and found her mailbox empty. She spoke with the mail carrier, who told her that the mailbox was full earlier. The mail probably contained bills and a rent check.
