Cupertino
will honor
volunteers
Each year, CREST (Cupertino Recognizes Extra Steps Taken) pays tribute to as many as 10 community volunteers with an awards ceremony held in May.
Those wishing to nominate an individual or organization for the CREST award can pick up an application form at city hall, the Cupertino Library, the Quinlan Community Center, the Chamber of Commerce, or on the city's website. The deadline for turning in nomination forms is March 21.

Cupertino urges
residents to be
blood donors
Mayor Dolly Sandoval has proclaimed January as National Blood Donor Month in Cupertino.
At the council's Jan. 15 meeting, Sandoval encouraged residents in good health to donate blood and said the city fully supports the national blood donor program, which started in 1970.
Patricia Childress, donor recruitment manager of the American Red Cross, also spoke at the meeting. She said there was a shortage of 21,000 units of blood in California in 2007.

Recycling event
scheduled at
Lynbrook High
Lynbrook High School is hosting its first electronics recycling event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 26 at the campus, 1280 Johnson Ave. in San Jose. The event is sponsored by Lynbrook's Conservation Action Association.
Items that can be dropped off for recycling include small appliances, electronics such as televisions and cell phones, and monitors, CD drives and other computer equipment.

CUSD schools
The annual Cupertino Educational Endowment Foundation, which raises funds for arts, technology and math programs in the Cupertino Union School District, will hold a "Majestic India" Gala Jan. 26 at the Cabana Hotel, 4290 El Camino Real, in Palo Alto.
The evening will feature an Indian buffet, entertainment, a silent auction bazaar, dancing, casino games and recognition of the teachers of the year.
