Lunar New Year parade, festival set for March 29
Cupertino's annual Lunar New Year Unity Parade and Festival is scheduled for March 29, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at Jollyman Park and ends with a festival at Memorial Park behind the Quinlan Community Center, 10185 N. Stelling Road.
This year's master of ceremonies will be Mayor Dolly Sandoval. The grand marshals will be superintendents Phil Quon of the Cupertino Union School District and Polly Bove of the Fremont Union High School District, and chancellor Martha Kanter of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District.
The event will include a cultural fair and performances by Cupertino elementary school bands. Ethnic food will be available for purchase.

Students organize fundraiser for cancer cure
The Monta Vista High School Octagon Club is hosting its eighth annual Cure Cancer Café on March 22 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Quinlan Community Center, 10185 N. Stelling Road.
The student-organized charity event will include a spaghetti dinner, silent auction and speakers. There will also be performances by magician Phil Ackerly, Studio 10 Dance, Ben Shao Lin's Martial Arts and Brad Wolfe and the Moon Band.
This year's theme is Masquerade Ball. All proceeds will go toward the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Over the last eight years, the club has raised about $80,000 from the event.
