The Prowler
While reviews are nice when there's plenty of time to check out the event being recommended, the Prowler prefers previews--at least in cases where there's only a short time to get one's rear in gear!
Such is the case with the next volunteer orientation held by the Silicon Valley Region chapter of the Special Olympics. Set for Jan. 8 at 7 p.m., it's open to anyone 16 or older with a sense of humor and a love of people. No sporting experience is required, just a desire to coach mentally challenged athletes in skiing, snow-shoeing, bowling, basketball and other sports. Call 408.392.0170 or visit www.sonc.org/sccso.
By contrast, the exhibit at Aegis Gallery of Fine Art will be up all month. Although located in Saratoga--14531 Big Basin Way, to be exact--the gallery's membership includes a handful of Los Gatans. What better time to see their work than in the group show and sale that makes up this month's exhibit? From photographs to watercolors, paper vessels to blown glass, the sale includes a little bit of everything. For gallery hours, call 408.867.0171 or visit www.aegisgallery.com.
Another art-related event is coming Jan 18 at 7 p.m. at GoldHorse Gallery, at 15473 Winchester Blvd. in Monte Sereno. That evening, Denni Clarke of Watsonville will give a narrated slideshow on crop circles, including her photos of the most recent ones in Great Britain. Clarke also runs Magical Mystery Tours and has written a book called Crop Circle Wisdom. Complementing her show are otherworldly paintings by Ron Lampi, unusual rock carvings by Jim McEnroe and vivid colorscapes by Victor Sakellar. RSVPs are advised, but not required. Call 408.685.6523 for more information.
