    Local couple returns home after a long and exciting sojourn with the Hubble Space Telescope


    While most Americans were watching the machinations of the presidential election on television, Los Gatans Denis and Jean McCloskey had their television tuned to Channel 34A, so they could watch the goings on in outer space. Astronauts Carlos Noriega (a graduate of Wilcox High in Santa Clara) and Joe Tanner, a friend of the McCloskeys, were floating in space, attaching powerful solar panels to the International Space Station orbiting high above the earth. The McCloskeys felt a visceral connection to the spacewalkers: both worked on the National Aeronautics Space Association's (NASA) first service mission to the Hubble Space Telescope.   More
