Kennedy explains appearance at rally
He appeared at a fund-raising event for Steve Blanton, but District Attorney George Kennedy isn't endorsing any candidate for county supervisor, he announced Dec. 27.
A report in another newspaper of the fund-raising event prompted Kennedy's statement that he doesn't currently plan to endorse any candidate for county supervisor--a contest after which the winner will pull the budgetary levers of Kennedy's department.
Kennedy appeared at the $350-a-head Blanton fund-raiser, staged Dec. 18 at C.B. Hannegan's, because he was invited by his friend Gary Ehlert, he said. He didn't have to pay, and he doesn't necessarily endorse Blanton, he said.
Kennedy told the Los Gatos Weekly-Times he frequently attends political events to discuss law-enforcement issues with politically active county residents. He's also discussed issues and explained workings of the district attorney's office in face-to-face meetings with two other supervisoral candidates: Rosemary Kamai and Keith Honda.
American Red Cross needs your blood
The American Red Cross is asking people to donate blood during the holiday season, when blood shortages often occur.
During holidays, it's difficult for the organization to collect the 200 pints of blood a day that local hospitals need. Anyone older than 17 years who weighs more than 110 pounds and is healthy can give blood.

Supermarkets teach recycling
Los Gatos supermarkets will educate shoppers, starting next week, on recycled packaging and recycled products.
From Jan. 13 to Feb. 28, Nob Hill, Whole Foods and the Pollard Road Safeway will stock shelves with informational flyers and mark recycled products with shelf tags.
