Mayor will give State of Town address Jan. 16
The Town of Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting on Jan. 16, and it will include the installation of its 2002 officers and a State of the Town address by Los Gatos Mayor Randy Attaway.
Architect Greg Stowers will be installed as chairman of the board, replacing outgoing chairwoman Margaret Smith, owner of Domus. The Chamber will also install Phil Johnson as chairman-elect and Keith Plottel as secretary-treasurer.
Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. at the Toll House Hotel. Chamber members can attend for $35, non-members for $45; reservations must be made by Jan. 11. For more information, contact the Chamber at 408.354.9300.
Police report a decrease in DUI arrests
Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police reported 30 drunken driving arrests between Dec. 14 and Jan. 2 as part of the countywide Avoid the 13 Campaign. According to Sgt. Dave Gravel, the decrease in arrests by four followed the county's decrease in total arrests from 890 last year to 820 this year.
The department reported no injury or fatality collisions during the campaign, as opposed to 2000, when there was one alcohol-related injury crash. Gravel says that the hope is that next year the arrests will decrease further, since the number had increased significantly between 1999 to 2000, from six arrests to 34.
Monte Sereno returns to topic of traffic light
The Monte Sereno City Council is expected to revisit the issue of pedestrian-activated lights near the intersection of Winchester Boulevard and Daves Avenue at its Jan. 15 meeting. In December, council members commissioned an engineer to look at the feasibility of such lights and explore other alternatives.
The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. and take place at the Monte Sereno City Council Chambers at 18041 Saratoga-Los Gatos Road. Contact city hall at 408.354.7635 for more information.
