Recreation board gets new members
The governing board
of the Los Gatos- Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation has selected three new members and reappointed one longtime board member.
At a Jan. 4 meeting, the board appointed Vince Garrod, who has been serving as the board's Saratoga representative, to one of the new at-large slots. Garrod owns Garrod Farms and has been an SUSD trustee.
The other at-large board member is Los Gatos resident Kyle Park, who works as a project manager for a Mountain View corporation.
Day-care center owner Marjan Sharifrejad was selected as the board's new Saratoga representative. Best said Sharifrejad applied for Garrod's old seat a year ago and has been attending board meetings ever since.
Michael Bomberger was chosen as the new Los Gatos representative, replacing Los Gatos Weekly-Times columnist John Baggerly. Bomberger is a recreation services manager with the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department and a member of the Los Gatos Parks Commission.
Answers to taxing questions are on the telephone
Californians who have questions about their state taxes can get some free advice from the state's Franchise Tax Board. The board is operating a telephone service called Fast Answers about State Taxes (FAST) through April 15.
FAST is designed to provide answers to the most commonly asked questions about state taxes, as well as information about state refunds, on an around-the-clock basis. Callers can also obtain state and federal tax forms through FAST daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The toll-free number is (800) 338-0505.
Callers whose questions aren't answered through FAST can call the tax board's regular phone service at (800) 852-5711. This service is available Mon.-Fri., 7 a.m.-8 p.m., through April 15.
