Robberies may be related

By Michelle Alaimo

An unknown armed suspect attempted to rob Happy Hound at 15899 Los Gatos Blvd. on Dec. 31 but got away with nothing, officials with the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department, said.

The man entered the closed restaurant at 9:01 p.m. through a back door that was accidentally left open, manager Todd Wheeler said. The suspect flashed a black automatic gun and demanded cash from the cash register, Sgt. Michael Barbieri said.

He added that the employee then opened the empty cash drawer and told the gunman that the manager had already made a cash drop. The robber then kicked the door to a room that led to a safe, yelled an obscenity and left by car, Barbieri said.

Wheeler stated that he ran after the car, and one of his friends then followed the car onto the freeway before finally losing sight of the vehicle.

The suspect is described as a white adult male, approximately 18 to 25 years old, 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 175 pounds. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and sweat pants, and police officials said they believe he might have been involved in two earlier robberies in December.

The earlier incidents took place on Dec. 18 at Ernie's Liquors at 14140 Blossom Hill Road and on Dec. 21 at Jamba Juice at 628 Blossom Hill Road. In both cases, at least one of the suspects was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. Barbieri said an investigation is under way to determine whether the incidents are connected.

In the meantime, those with any additional information are asked to contact the LG-MSPD's investigation unit at 354-6825.
