Recent editorial was on target
The editorial in the Jan. 8 issue of the Los Gatos Weekly-Times was well-written, thought-provoking and right on. Thank you for keeping us on our toes.
The White House position opposing the will of the people in California on allowing marijuana use for medicinal purposes is consistent with the administration's inconsistency. After all, the White House staff's use of marijuana for "recreational" purposes clouds their judgment. They use it, but like all big government advocates, they do not want anyone else to use it, no matter what the people want. I suspect that drug use has gone way beyond marijuana in the White House. There certainly are many rumors to the effect that cocaine use is rampant in the White House and was rampant in the governor's staff when Bill Clinton was in Arkansas.
We need to send a clear message to Clinton. Bug off. We do not want you screwing around in our state. We know what is right, and we voted for what is right.

Article was professional
My heartfelt thanks to all at the Los Gatos Weekly-Times for the wonderful exposure given in the Jan. 8 issue to my passion for early American poetry, and my book on the subject. I am especially grateful for the professionalism and creativity given this article by Mary Ann Cook, the writer, and George Sakkestad on camera. They were the best people to work with!
I would like to clarify two minor points and add one if I may.
First, contrary to the suggestion in the story, I am very much interested in the works of Whitman, Emerson, Dickinson and all the well-known poets of 19th-century America. However, the original poetry I collect from unsung poets is what is featured in the book. Second, though the book is being printed locally by Armadillo Press, I am self-publishing and self-marketing it. Anyone interested in a copy, or even in having me share with them the original poetry manuscripts or needlework, can write me at: Early American Poetry, P.O. Box 2160, Los Gatos, 95031. Also, for those interested in the book but unable to purchase, I will be donating copies to the Los Gatos, Saratoga, and St. Andrew's school libraries.

Historic structure needs protection
Monte Sereno seems to be having a problem with historic structures.
Monte Sereno would do well to look at the structure the founding fathers built in 1787 and repaired in 1791. This historic structure is called the Constitution.
The Constitution handles the Monte Sereno problem in a very simple manner: "... nor be deprived of ... private property without due process of law, nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation."
In other words, if you want to control my property, buy it or shut up.

Clinton thwarts voters' wishes
I want to express my outrage that the Clinton administration is interfering with the implementation of propositions approved by the voters of California.
There seems to be no consideration given by Washington or federal judges to the fact that millions of Californians disagree with them.
What constitutes democracy when majority rule is thwarted?
Isn't Slobodan Milosevic's "crime" that he annulled the result of local elections?
