Clinic prepares Little Leaguers for upcoming player evaluations
The Los Gatos Little League will hold player evaluations on Jan. 26, weather permitting. In order to prepare players for the evaluation, the league will host a clinic for players ages 9-12 on Jan. 19, 10 a.m.-noon, at Baggerly Field at Blossom Hill Park.
Players will work on the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing and running at the clinic.

Giants need homes
Signing a professional baseball contract is an exciting experience for any young man. But the early years of his career can be difficult and lonely.
Many of the players--most of them in their late teens and early 20s--find themselves away from home for the first time.
That's why the San Jose Giants, a Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, looks for local families to take in their players each season.
The search is currently on for host families for the 2002 season that runs April through August. Linda Pereira of the Giants needs to find enough families for the players by early March.
Host families provide a player with a room, and the Giants provide season tickets and parking passes for all of the club's games at San Jose Municipal Stadium. The team also hosts picnics for the families and sponsors and annual trip to a San Francisco Giants game at Pac Bell Park.
"It's really a great program," said Pereira.
For more information on the host family program, call Pereira at 408.297.1435, ext. 19.
Golf for the Broncos
Mark O'Brien will pull on the uniform as the new head baseball coach at Santa Clara University this spring. But before he does, he'll be meeting and greeting baseball boosters in the Santa Clara University Bronco Baseball Golf Tournament on Jan. 25 at Cinnabar Hills Golf Club in San Jose.
The tourney features an 11:30 a.m. shotgun start and will be followed by a dinner, auction and raffle. The registration fee is $215 and includes cart, green fees, range balls, tee prizes, lunch and dinner (cost for the dinner only is $50).
The field in the best ball scramble tourney is limited to 144 golfers.
