    Girls post back-to-back soccer wins

Juniors Emily Shanker and Merin Clark combined for seven goals in two games to lead the Los Gatos girls soccer team to back-to-back wins over Milpitas and Wilcox last week in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

Shanker buried four goals and Clark had two in the Wildcats' 8-1 win over Wilcox to open the week.

Junior Carolyn Penner supported with a goal and two assists to help the Cats to the lopsided win over the Chargers. Senior Kirstin Horn also scored a goal for Gatos and Ali Dodson, Emily Goron, Jeanette Guzzetti, Ashley Benson and Liz Morrissey added assists.

The Wildcats opened up a 4-1 first-half lead against the Chargers, then unloaded for four unanswered goals in the second half to claim the lopsided victory.

Kate Demers drilled a pair of goals and Clark and Penner added a goal apiece to drive the Cats past Milpitas 4-0 later in the week. Shanker had an assist for Gatos.

It was a similar story in this one for the Wildcats. They opened up a commanding 3-0 lead by intermission, then tacked on an insurance goal in the second half to clinch the win.

The Cats, now 4-0 in the El Camino Division and 5-1-2 for the season, face a bye this week before hosting Fremont on Jan. 17, 3:30 p.m.
