    Mayor Blanton to address Chamber

Mayor Steve Blanton will speak on business partnerships, future town issues and the Town of Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce's role in town problem-solving at the Chamber's annual meeting, which is set to take place Jan. 25 at 7:30 a.m. in the Toll House Hotel.

The mayor's "State of the Town" address will be followed by the installation of Chamber officers and board of directors.

The cost for the breakfast event is $15. Registration by Jan. 22 is required. Call 408.354.9300 for more information.

    POST begins final funding push

The Peninsula Open Space Trust has begun its final funding drive to purchase the former Alma College property now known as Bear Creek Redwoods Park.

The trust still needs approximately $2 million to pay back the $10 million loan it secured last June to buy the 805 acres of forest. The Gabilan Foundation and an individual living near the park have offered to match any donations dollar for dollar.

Eventually, the area will be open for public enjoyment. Contact Mary Shields at 650.854.7696 for more information.

    Old autos sought for program

Anyone with a 1981 or older vehicle that isn't a classic car has the opportunity to participate in the Bay Area Air Quality Management District's Vehicle Buy Back Program.

In an effort to reduce the number of smog-belching older vehicles on Bay Area roads, the district will pay $500 for any 1981 and older car or light-duty truck. The district has earmarked almost $4 million to buy 7,000 of the estimated 500,000 outdated vehicles in the Bay Area.
