Unfamiliar car leads police to suspect

An early morning prowler was reported inside a residence in the Greenwood Road area of Monte Sereno on Jan. 10. When officers from the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department responded to the scene at 5 a.m., the prowler fled into a residence across the street and eventually left the area on foot.

Officers located an unfamiliar vehicle in the neighborhood. They determined through the Department of Motor Vehicles that the owner was on state parole for burglary and had a residence in Campbell. Police officers from the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno and Campbell police departments responded to the suspect's Campbell residence and set up surveillance of the house when they discovered he was not at home.

When the suspect returned home on foot several hours later, he was arrested for parole violation at the request of his parole officer. Steven Hall, 48, is being held in the Santa Clara County jail pending further investigation of the prowling incident.
