Los Gatos Weekly-TimesNews BriefsDraft EIR is out for SummerHill proposal The draft environmental impact report for SummerHill Homes' proposal to build 47 houses on Blossom Hill Road is now out and can be reviewed by the public at the Town Library or in the Planning Department. The plan calls for the homes to be built on the lower 20 acres of the site, preserving approximately 80 acres of hillside as open space. The public comment period will last for 45 days. Comments may be sent to the Planning Commission, 110 E. Main St., Los Gatos, 95031. Greenbelt Alliance plans Bear Creek hike The Greenbelt Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to conservation, urban planning and raising awareness about open space and greenbelts, organizes free Greenbelt Outings in eight Northern California counties. The next one, "Friends of Bear Creek," takes place Jan. 24 in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Hikers, who should bring their own food and water, meet at 10 a.m. to hike six miles to reach 1,253-foot-high Priest Rock. From there, they can view the proposed site of the Bear Creek Redwoods Preserve and other panoramic views. Greenbelt hike leaders will also provide information about local efforts to preserve the Bear Creek area, where Pete Denevi has proposed building a golf course and where timber interests pose a threat. Depending on the season, the Greenbelt Alliance also plans bike rides, beach visits, boat trips and other educational outdoor activities. For reservations or information, call 415/255-3233.
